the purpose of this blog is for other students to share there school progress thoughts and ideas about school.
this is not for sharing personal information and images
If you haven't read it already on my portfolio there is a project talking about corruption. If you have any comments questions or just disagree with me message me here.
Choose one habit that speaks to you the most (this can be one that you feel you have already committed to OR want to commit more to). Then, create a blog post that:
- Has an appropriate title
- Identifies the Habit by name (words in capitals)
- Summarizes that habit (explaining it in your own words)
- Identifies how that habit could impact your life as a grade 8 student getting ready for high school (basically, by doing/being this, what impact will it have on you?) Be specific with your examples!
- Write one critical thinking question that encourages discussion around these habits.
Respond to AT LEAST 2 questions posted by your classmates.
The habit we chose was being proactive
Being proactive is choosing to do something based on the values and circumstances and not on your moods. Most proactive people like to take change and they do not react or blame others.
The habit of being proactive could impact my life as I get ready for high school because being proactive will allow me to get my work done more effectively and purposefully.
The habit of being proactive could impact my life as I get ready for high school because it will allow me to never take the easy way out of life. Taking the easy way out will not will not have a beneficial impact when I am older but taking the hard way out will.
Does this personality trait or others encourage you to change yourself or others and why?
This was done cooperatively with Sierra and Sam as it did not specify it could not be done this way.

Hey Maddie haven’t really seen you for a while.
I know I won't be able to see you ever again and it just breaks my heart every time I go to write these to you. But don’t worry about me, how is it up there? You're getting everything you want and need right? Look I'm just going to get right to the point of this letter Maddie I miss you. Don't worry Jupiter's doing amazing, I haven’t seen her yet but her foster parents are writing to me and sending me pictures every week. Usually on Monday but sometimes she sends them to me on Tuesdays. Anyways love you and I miss you. Maddie Joyce <3 Joseph Brook
Just to state before I get into the second letter it says on the envelope that if Joseph is not there for Jupiter's 16th birthday to give this to her.
December 31st 1979
Dear Jupiter Brook,
Hello Jupiter, how are you. How are your parents treating you? I know I'm not there for your 16th birthday and I'm sorry for that, but I want you to know I love you so much, me and your mom love you so much. She even died giving birth to you, and I ran away from home too many times to find you, and know both me and your mother will always love you.
Enclosed in this letter is 20$ and a picture spend it on whatever you want I know it's not much but it's all I can spare for right now. The pictures of your mom and me, they’re poorly taken but I want you to remember us always.
There are so many things I want to share with you but since I can't, here are two things I would appreciate it if you did 1. During the winter pour maple syrup onto the snow put a popsicle stick in it it tastes so good 2. I want you to meet my best friend Jackie and his family they will help you if you need it. They live at (address).
I love you as always
Hello Ty, our teacher is making us ask you a question (boring right). So I was wondering What is the most impact scene in the book, why, And what type of scene is it?
If you were to compose/associate a soundtrack for your Orbiting Jupiter movie, which songs (3-4) would you chose and why did you chose them?
One of the big problem with books is there is no audio, and since my teacher had us make a cast and a movie poster I thought I would need to make a soundtrack. (Now all I need is a camera and the actors).
The first song will come during the opening credits before the movie to try to create an overall feel for the movie, this was a very hard task because the book has many aspects. I decided to go with Under the Bridge by The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The first reason I chose this song is the sad feeling. Its sad feeling is undeniable its lyrics are “I don't ever want to feel Like I did that day Take me to the place I love Take me all the way I don't ever want to feel Like I did that day Take me to the place I love Take me all the way (yeah yeah)” but it has a few high moments to touch on the few happy feeling moments. The second reason I chose this song is it a very popular song that anyone born between 1990-2000 should know. Click here for the song. For reasons from the lyrics click here.
The next song will quietly start when Jack leaves the bus stop with Joseph and will get louder all the way till the part when Mr. Canton opens up Jack's locker. The song I chose for this was Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO because it's very applicable to this part because in this part they're having fun and becoming friends. It's also very upbeat and we need something upbeat in this movie or everyone will be depressed by the end. Click here for the song.
My third song is for the part where Joseph is skating and Jack is yelling at him but this song mutes out Jack until Jack yells out Madie, and the song is Free Fallin’ by Tom Petty. The reason is it hints at joseph being in love with someone and the fact that it's covered up by it looking like it's just about him skating and feeling like he's flying is just a bonus. Another reason is that it talks about feeeling bad for letting go of the one you love. Click here for the song.
My next song is during his memories of Maddie and when Joseph tells the family about Maddie. The song is very touchy and emotional but it fits the mood, the song I chose was I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith. The first reason is it's a love song. A love song fits this scene perfectly as it's about him loving Maddie and not wanting to forget about Maddie. Click here for the song.
My final song will be All I Want for Christmas is You in the style of Michael Buble. The first reason is song is christmas themed and fits perfectly fits with the christmas theme of the book. The last reason is it talks about all Joseph wanting to be with Jupiter right then. Click here for the song.
Overall these are the songs I would choose thank you for reading and have an awesome day.
Orbiting jupiter is a teen novel written by Gary D. Schmidt. In many books it's to the person how the characters look but finding a cast to fit all of our favorite character. In the book orbiting jupiter there are many main characters so it was hard to find actors to fit the role of the characters, based on what we know about the characters up to chapters 1-3. my first main character is Jack, Jack is a 12 year old boy whose parents adopted a foster son named Joseph, the actor I chose to play Jack is Dakota Goyo. the reason I chose Dakota to play Jack is because he has a childlike look. I do not know how to describe it but he is a very serious actor who appears to be a child on the outside. He can play very serious roles well still looking like a child that's why I chose dakota for Jack. For joseph I wanted a character who I knew could play a prankster and I immediately thought of the guy from good luck charlie, and after a while of digging I found Bradley Steven Perry he played gabe on good luck charlie who was a misfit prankster and has brown eyes black hair, which is close enough to black eyes black hair, and he is able to act like he did something bad with a smile. And finally he has a main character feel like you could pick him out of a crowd.
For the Vice principal I chose antonio banderas because he has a serious voice and looks like he'd fit the part he doesn't look to old and he's not to huge of an actor that a lot of people will not be distracted by him other than that he's a main character. For the bus driver i chose Michael Cain he's an actor who would fit the role big-time because he is a very serious stern strict and wise man.
Q: "Throughout the first part of chapter one, many people have preconceived notions about Joseph, from his new family, the bus driver and, even the vice principles and teachers. Identify the labels that have been placed upon Joseph and how that effects the character in the book."
A great many labels have been placed upon him in the few days hes been there, one of the labels placed on Joseph is murderer. He is labeled murderer because he was given a drug (possibly mushrooms, ecstasy, marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine's, bath-salts Ect.) and he attacked his teacher. a person who gave him this label is the authorities barbecue they sent him to Stone Mountain (the juvenile facility) even though it wasn't his fault he attacked his teacher because he was on drugs.
1. language: so far I am liking language we are learning about info-graphs advertisements and we are spending some time reading. the main reason I like language so far is our teacher has mainly made it interactive for us so that we can play a part in our lesson rather than just sitting down and reading.
2. Art: so far art is not my favorite subject because our teacher only gives us one week to work on it and it kind of rushes me because for me to make good art it takes me about a month to do so.
3. History: so far history has been fun because I love history and getting to learn more about our history is awesome.(I still know a lot more about American history)
4. French: ugh I hate french why cant we learn Spanish Latin Swedish something that is not french, I know more Spanish Latin and Greek then I do french and I've been learning french for 8 years.
5. Math. Math is fine its not my favorite subject but its nice everyone bags on it its not that bad at this point me and my peers all know most of the stuff were learning.
my teacher is a male teacher, hes very nice, he has many places hes worked ,before (Georgia, Australia, and Forest.)
